The California Highway Patrol is investigating why a shirtless man in bare feet was running across the westbound lanes of the Interstate 210 freeway east of Citrus Avenue late Friday, eventually being struck and killed by a car.

The incident began around 11:40 p.m. Feb. 27, when the CHP began receiving numerous 911 calls of a man running in lanes of traffic on the 210 between Citrus and Sunflower avenues. More callers soon stated that the pedestrian was then struck by numerous cars, according to a report by CHP investigators.

The pedestrian was declared deceased by first responders at 12:11 a.m. The CHP determined none of the drivers involved in the collisions were impaired with alcohol or drugs.

Officials with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office have yet to identify the fatally-struck man. Anyone with information is asked to call CHP Officer C. Guin at the Baldwin Park offices, (626) 338-1164.
