Fire Tears Through Home, Displaces Residents, Kills Family Dog

A fire tore through a home on South Bender Avenue Saturday, April 11.

An electrical malfunction caused a devastating house fire Saturday morning.

Two adults and three children have been displaced and no injuries were reported. However, a family dog was killed in the fire, which was reported around 11:25 a.m. in the 1700 block of South Bender Avenue. Fire fighters arrived four minutes later, said Battalion Chief Bob Haskell of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“It appears the fire started in the back attached patio and it may have been electrical,” Haskell said.

American Red Cross workers were summoned to assist the displaced family with temporary lodgings and food.

No other structures were damaged, except for a wood fence that was burned.

Family members were on scene, removing what property remained.

Specifically what type of electrical malfunctioned caused the fire was not yet known, Haskell said.
