Be Our Guest: South Africa Team Treated To Parade, Dining, Music

The festivities were not quite over Thursday for the members of the Special Olympics team and staff.

Not long after an In N Out lunch and tour of the odd, but fascinating Rubel Castle, the delegation was given a hometown parade along Glendora Avenue, where they were cheered by welcoming residents.

Many residents fashioned large signs adorned with the names of athletes to help show their support.

The delegation was joined by area dignitaries, such as Dr. Geraldine Perri, superintendent/president of Citrus College, members from the Pomona Valley chapter of the Special Olympics of Southern California and the Glendora City Council.

The parade concluded outside Glendora City Hall where the delegation was honored with a medal given to each member of the team and staff.

The team was later treated to a Braai, a traditional South African barbecue, and a concert at Finkbiner Park provided by Raymond Michael, an Elvis Presley tribute.
