The national weather service has issued a special weather statement for a chance of showers and thunderstorms to blanket SoCal Wednesday and into Thursday, with a slight chance for both to hit the valleys.

Mountain areas stand a higher chance for showers and thunderstorms Wednesday and Thursday, mostly in the afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.

There is a small chance of thunderstorms to hit the mountain regions of Los Angeles County Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday evening, The NWS said.

Areas with higher chances for rain may receive heavy downpours, with greater flash flood potential in the mountains and recent burn areas.

Rain is expected to diminish late Thursday night and into Friday morning.
