With St. Patrick’s Day this Thursday, the Glendora Police Department announced the intent to deploy extra officers to catch DUI drivers March 17.

In the effort to lower deaths and injuries, the extra officers, deployed on overtime, will join the larger Los Angeles County DUI Task Force in searching for tell tale signs of DUI or drug impairment.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that between 2010 and 2014, three-fourths of DUI fatalities involved drivers with a blood alcohol content of above the .08 percent limit, with 266 DUI fatalities nationwide.

DUI Taskforce enforcement is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the NHTSA.
