SAN DIMAS: Firefighters Extinguish Small Freeway Brush Fire

UPDATE, 2:52 p.m.: Firefighters have knocked down the nearly two-and-a-half-acre brush fire near the southbound 57 freeway at Via Verde Avenue.

Knockdown was reported around 2:50 p.m. Two fire engines will remain on scene to ensure a flare up does not occur, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic.

UPDATE, 1:50 p.m.: Firefighters report the brush fire is at two acres and is beginning to move into itself. A nearby senior living facility has evacuated its residents as a precaution.

PREVIOUS: Los Angeles County Firefighters are working on a one and a half-acre brush fire on the hillside near the southbound 57 freeway near Via Verde Avenue.

The fire is moving slowly westbound on the hillside, structures are not threatened at this time, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department broadcast traffic.

Firefighters were dispatched around 1:13 p.m.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies and the California Highway Patrol have freeway lanes shut down on the southbound 57 freeway south of Covina Boulevard.

Firefighting helicopters have also been dispatched.

The California Highway Patrol has issued a Sig Alert for the southbound 3 and 4 lanes of the 57 freeway.
