July Fourth is looming over the horizon, bringing all the patriotic cheer the people can muster. Barbecues and fireworks at the beach are the typical festivities, but the San Gabriel Valley also has its own way of celebrating.

JULY 2

SAN DIMAS: On July 2, San Dimas will be hosting a trip from the Civic Center Park, 245 E. Bonita Ave., to the Hollywood Bowl for the Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular, featuring a concert by Chicago! The fee is $63.50 for residents, and $65 for non-residents.

JULY 4

COVINA: The city will be hosting The Annual Breakfast With the Band from 8:45 a.m.  to 10 a.m. at Covina Park, 301 4th Ave., with a special concert afterwards by the Covina Concert Band. A $5 donation is suggested.

WEST COVINA: Enjoy the City of West Covina Independence Day Celebration at Edgewood Middle/High School. The day begins across the street at Hurst Ranch, 1227 S. Orange Ave., with a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Entry is $5 per person. Then enjoy a carnival and other festivities at Edgewood Middle/High School, 1625 W. Durness St., from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., with an entrance fee of only $1. The Swing Cats Big Band will be playing 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

LA VERNE: The city will be a flurry of activity on the Fourth of July, and will begin the day with a $5 Pancake Breakfast from 6:30 a.m.  to 11 a.m., hosted by the Boy Scout Troop 411. The Pre-parade begins at 9:40 a.m., with 200 shiny motorcycles making their way through the parade route carrying flags. The parade officially begins at 10 a.m., and winds its way through La Verne’s Old Town. Roynan Elementary School will be hosting a Country Fair with entertainment for all ages from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is a Deep Pit BBQ hosted by the Methodist Church 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Fireworks Show is held at Bonita High School, 3102 D St., with the ticket booths opening at 5 p.m. The show starts at 7 p.m. and concludes at 9:30 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults and $6 for children. Children age 4 and under can attend for free.

MONROVIA: The city will be hosting a 4th of July Concert and Fireworks Show beginning at 3 p.m. at Library Park, 321 S. Myrtle Ave. A live band will play prior to the show, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. followed by a 20-minute fireworks display at 9 p.m. The events is free of charge.

IRWINDALE: The city will be holding a 4th of July Spectacular, a family friendly event from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Irwindale Park, 16053 Calle De Paseo. Recreational swimming will be available 10:30 a.m. -to 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., along with food, arts, and craft vendors. A variety of bands will also be playing during the event.

PASADENA: A city sponsored event, Pasadena’s 4th Fest will be held at the Pasadena Convention Center, 300 E. Green St. It kicks off at 4 p.m., and concludes at 10 p.m. There is a variety of entertainment, including vendors, a cook off, and even a kid zone. A Car and Motorcycle show is held at the Pasadena Fairgrounds from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., with $20 registration.

This Fourth of July, celebrate safely and make sure to check if fireworks are allowed in your city. Fines can be up to $1000.
