Young Glendoran Opens Kraphty’s Italian Eatery In Azusa

Daniel Hope, a 24 year-old Glendora native, has opened Kraphty’s Craft Beer and Italian Eatery.

Located in Azusa at the corner of Gladstone St and Citrus Ave, it was previously Tulipano’s Italian Restaurant. It opened as Kraphty’s February 3 and has enjoyed instant success as a casual dining place to stop in for a beer and grab a bite to eat.

Hope was a 2010 graduate of Glendora High School and went on to study at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts. He worked for Tulipano’s as a sous chef after graduating.

After finding out the Tulipano’s owners were thinking of selling the restaurant and retiring, Hope jumped at the opportunity. He envisioned a more casual place for the area, as opposed to trying to be fine dining.

In addition to home style Italian food, he also wanted a relaxing atmosphere where people can walk in, pull up to the bar area and grab a local craft brew.  The first thing he did was change out the furniture, added some park bench style tables and added a small bar area with beers on tap as you walk in.

At the bar you will find a rotating assortment of craft brews, most of which are local such as Alosta Brew, Dale Bros and Rev Brewing Company.

The menu is simple with sandwiches, flatbread pizza’s, pastas and salads. There are a few fun twists if you want change though. The garlic fries and appetizer platters come with an assortment of sauces, one of which is a ghost pepper ketchup. There is also marshmallow cream and sweet chili among others.

The flavor kick in the ghost chili ketchup is there and will creep up on your taste buds quick. GCN got to do a taste test and can verify the heat, but it was well worth it.

If you want to stick to classic dishes though, feel free to grab one of their homemade meatball sandwiches or spaghetti plates and have at it. But if you want to try something more, we recommend the bacon wrapped cannoli for dessert…yup!

For the month of March they are doing $1 draft beer with any sandwich, pasta or pizza purchase if you need an excuse to try it out.

Kraphty’s is located at 530 S. Citrus Ave. Azusa, Ca. 91702
