Sellers Students Plant Tree in Memory of Crossing Guard

Tree dedication for Larry Harris at Sellers Elementary

Sellers Elementary School will never forget crossing guard Larry Harris and what he meant to the entire school community. Harris passed away earlier this year, leaving a community and students grieving, as we was very well loved.

Last Friday, Principal Steve Bishop led a school-wide ceremony which involved the planting of a tree on the school’s field to honor his memory. Several members of the school’s “Kindness Club” collectively read excerpts from Shel Silverstein’s famous poem “The Giving Tree”.

Members of the Glendora City Council, GUSD board members, and dignitaries were in attendance as well as Harris’ wife and daughter. These honored guests had a chance to shovel dirt and help fill the hole of the memorial tree.

Mr. Bishop and GPD Officer William Lee offered heartfelt remarks; remembering ‘Mr. Larry’s’ kindness, dedication, and commitment to the safety of Sellers students and their families.
