A DUI and driver license checkpoint will be coming to town this Friday, Dec 19.
The checkpoint will operate at an undisclosed location in Glendora from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Officers will examine drivers for possible impairment from alcohol and/or drugs and verify divers for proper licensing, said Glendora Police in a written statement.
Impaired drivers reportedly killed 802 deaths and nearly 24,000 injuries on California roads in 2012, authorities reported.
DUI checkpoint locations are chosen using collision statistics and the frequency of DUI arrests to allow officers to maximize deterrence, police said.
“The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes,” police said. “Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely.”
Drivers caught while impaired can expect to endure jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses which can top $10,000, police said.
Funding for this DUI/driver license checkpoint is provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
