While the rest of Glendora was preoccupied with heavy rain, police pursued an alleged Kohl’s thief Tuesday afternoon.

The suspect ran red lights and reached speeds of 65 miles per hour while fleeing officers westbound on Gladstone Street from the Glendora Marketplace, eventually terminating with a brief foot pursuit at a gated community on Glendora Avenue, police said.

Loss Prevention at Kohl’s, 1225 S. Lone Hill Ave., called police at 3:42 p.m. regarding the theft suspect, who was identified by a Monrovia Kohl’s as having stolen from them, said Sgt. Marty Barrett of Glendora Police.

Officers attempted to pull the suspect over but he refused to stop and led them on a chase.

The suspect turned into a gated complex in the 900 block of South Glendora Avenue and became stuck. The suspect fled police on foot, but was quickly caught, Barrett said.

Azusa transient Justin Black, 29, was booked on suspicion of reckless felony evading police, receiving known stolen property and unlawfully taking a vehicle, according to Glendora Police booking records.

The vehicle was taken out of Glendora, Barrett said.

Black is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail. His initial court date was not available.
