Residents From Burglarized Neighborhood Thank GPD

Lt. Matt Egan and Sgt. Marty Barrett along with other department personnel, and City Council Members in attendance, accept a trophy and much gratitude from a group of neighbors

Residents from the neighborhood near Foothill Blvd and Country Club Rd took the opportunity Monday to thank some of the officers who secured their neighborhood last week.

The high profile attempted burglaries were first reported by GCN last Tuesday night, into Wednesday morning. Five burglars fleeing from police, after being noticed, terrorized the neighborhood when two of them eluded the initial arrest. Running through streets, yards and eventually being caught under a house and in a garage, put all of the residents in the area on edge as Glendora Police searched over four hours for them.

Resident Darla Drendal, who lives in the containment area which was set, gathered neighbors and resources to show support for the police department. Darla garnered all types of support and donations. They included coffee for the entire department from Classic Coffee, 5 dozen Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and even Sergio’s Mexican Restaurant offered to help feed all of the officers involved.

Those police personnel on hand for the show of gratitude included Lieutenant Matt Egan, Sargent Marty Barrett and a few of the responding officers and dispatch. Lt Egan was the Watch Commander that evening as Sgt. Barrett set a quick and effective containment of the area, which includes many winding streets and hillsides.

As residents spoke at the presentation, it was clear how appreciative they were to our officers during a night that included so much uncertainty and fear.

In the end, all five male burglars were arrested with the aid of residents tips and Glendora’s K-9 Bo. Three female accomplices were also detained, two of which are facing charges as well. All seven arrested were from out of the area.
