The Charter Oak Unified School Board voted to name Charter Oak High School Football Stadium for Coach Lou Farrar at their regularly scheduled October 3, 2019 meeting. Coach Farrar has been coaching football for 52 years and has served as the head coach at Charter Oak High School for 34 years.
“It is an honor to recognize the numerous contributions Coach Farrar has made to Charter Oak High School and the players under his care over the years,” said School Board President Jeanette Flores. “He has truly made an impact to students and staff not only on the athletic field, but also on campus and in the community. We have been very fortunate to have his leadership touch the lives of so many of our students, staff, and families.”
The Governing Board may name district grounds, athletic fields, and facilities (including individual building or schools) in recognition of individuals, living or deceased, who have made outstanding contributions of school community, state, national or worldwide significance. A public hearing was held September 12, 2019 for members of the public to provide input and feedback.
“Coach Lou Farrar has been generous in his time and commitment to the players, football program, and Charter Oak High School,” commented Interim Superintendent Jose Banda. “We are extremely grateful for his contributions and can think of no better way to honor him.”
Coach Lou Farrar has won five CIF Southern Section Championships, 18 league championships, and accumulated 320 total victories.
Charter Oak community members suggested the football stadium be named for Farrar. He was hired in September 1970 and taught psychology and civics at Royal Oak High School, where he began coaching. Farrar moved to Charter Oak High School in 1985. Since his retirement in June 2007, Farrar has continued coaching football.
