Los Angeles County Fire Fighters and a water rescue team were called around 4:32 PM Wednesday afternoon up to an area at the beginning of Azusa Canyon.
The call was to the area of N. San Gabriel Canyon Rd. and Old San Gabriel Canyon Rd., about 1 mile up the canyon from Sierra Madre Ave.
Although reports are conflicting, eyewitnesses to the rescue efforts have told GCN that there were two people on some type of raft.
One person was able to exit the water of their own will but another apparently drown or suffered some type of cardiac arrest. That patient was airlifted to a nearby hospital but pronounced dead.
According to scanner traffic, the deceased patient was possibly a male in his 50’s.
No other info was available at this time.
