A total of 24 California Highway Patrol officers took part in extra patrols during Super Bowl Sunday and part of Monday morning, netting 28 DUI arrests, authorities said.
The Patrols, part of the Impaired Driver Task Force, were conducted from 7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1, through 3:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, in portions of Glendora, Baldwin Park, La Puente, Covina, West Covina, Azusa and Monrovia.
Authorities stated that more DUI-related crashes happen in California during the National Football League championship than at any other Sunday during January and February.
“The California Highway Patrol reminds everyone that drinking, or using illegal or prescription drugs while driving, reduces your ability to react to changing traffic conditions. Bicyclists, pedestrians and disabled vehicles are a part of our every day driving,” authorities said in a written statement. “When you combine driving, drugs and drinking the results can be fatal.”
