Previous: Although no official confirmation has been made, loved ones have revealed the name of the Glendora woman killed in a traffic collision in Pomona.

Caryn O’Brien Jacobsen, 60, died Monday, May 6 after reportedly suffering a medical issue after she rear-ended a stopped big rig in Pomona. Jacobsen was driving her sedan near Pomona Boulevard west of Temple Avenue when she struck the stopped big rig in a parking lot just off the main thoroughfare, said Cpl. J.T. Garcia of Pomona Police in a written statement.

Responding officers found the driver “in medical distress.” She was rushed to an area hospital where she passed away shortly thereafter, Garcia said.

Tina Schneider, owner of Spin 360 Fitness on Arrow Highway, and Jacobsen’s husband John helped identify Caryn to GCN, who was described as an angel on earth and loyal.

“She was the kind of person who put everyone’s needs above her own. She went above and beyond the definition of wife, sister, daughter, relative, employer, friend and neighbor,” said Schneider in a brief email interview.

Caryn and husband John had only been married for two years. The couple were often seen in The Village, enjoying a walk with their cherished dog, Vinnie, or enjoying a meal at the Village Eatery, John said.

“She will always hold a permanent space in our heart,” Schneider said.

Caryn formerly studied at Cal Poly Pomona and is a graduate of Bishop Amat Memorial High School, according to her Facebook page.

The Jacobsen’s had no children.

John and Schneider were busy making funeral arrangements Thursday.
