A woman and her 4-year-old daughter received moderate injuries after being rear ended in a DUI crash Saturday afternoon.

The collision occurred just before 5 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Route 66 at Vecino Avenue. The alleged drunk driver of a Chevy Silverado truck rear ended the driver and 4-year-old passenger of the Nissan Leaf at a high rate of speed. The mother and daughter were flown by helicopter to an area trauma center for their injuries, said Lt. Scott Strong of Glendora Police.

The alleged drunk driver, 58-year-old Anthony Caggiano, from Glendora, was uninjured in the crash, Strong said.

“It appeared like he didn’t even slow down at all. He just completely slammed into them,” Strong said.

Caggiano’s speed before the crash was not immediately known, but Caggiano’s blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit, Strong said.

Caggiano was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence causing injury and for driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or higher. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Caggiano was transferred to the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles due to the felony charges of drunk driving, Strong said.
