The Charter Oak Unified School District will kick off the opening of the new STEAM Academy at Glen Oak Elementary School.
The grand opening is scheduled for Tuesday, May 10, with three different sessions for students to choose amongst the STEAM categories: science, technology, engineering, art and math. Session one begins at 10:45 a.m.
Glen Oak Principal Karen Goss will provide tours of the STEAM room, which is being created now. Teachers will be able to provide indoor and outdoor lessons and give students more hands-on learning opportunities.
During the kick-off, teachers will be giving a different lesson in the STEAM categories. Students will choose three classes to attend during the grand opening and will alternate during the three sessions scheduled that day, Goss said.
“They’ll get to go through rotations where they’ll learn different parts about STEAM and have a fun day of hands-on learning,” Goss said.
Parents can also enjoy a picnic with their kids and can enjoy a book fair.
Glen Oak Elementary School is located at 1000 N. Sunflower Ave. in Covina.
