Once again America’s Christian Credit Union is hosting the annual Patriot Week, leading up to Memorial Day. This is the third year ACCU has hosted the week long fundraiser, looking to honor our military.
It kicked off Tuesday morning, as community members, numerous Glendora Police personnel and city officials met at ACCU.
The event which culminates with a celebration on Thursday afternoon, is cosponsored by Project Glendora Yellow Ribbon. Project Glendora Yellow Ribbon is a group to publicly recognize and thank Glendorans actively serving in the five branches of the Armed Forces.
The featured speakers on Tuesday morning were Ken and Nancy Bennett, the parents of Glendora’s fallen hero Wade Bennett who lost his life serving our Country in 2012.
The Bennett’s have since started Project Chaos, devoted to bringing awareness of the ongoing needs of wounded warriors and families of the fallen.
All week long, residents can stop by the branch at 2100 E. Route 66 in Glendora for contests, prizes, crafts and show gratitude to local heroes. In addition, every account opened will garner a $10 donation to Project Chaos.
According to ACCU, they started this fundraising week as a way to bring everyone together.
“This tradition began with the purpose to unite the community in celebrating, honoring and supporting the U.S. military, veterans and first-responders”, ACCU wrote on their Facebook page.
This year, the celebration continues with events including an opening ceremony on Tuesday, May 24th, a presentation of homemade treats and baked goods to local first responders on Wednesday, May 25th, and a family day ceremony to wrap-up the week on Thursday, May 26th.
The community is also invited to participate in the Family Day Celebration on Thursday from 4:30-6pm at the branch.
