The Glendora Lassie League was recently notified that they were awarded a sizable grant from an area foundation.
The LA84 Foundation announced that a $10,000 grant will be awarded to the Glendora Lassie League and will be used for equipment and facility upgrades.
This is the first time the Glendora Lassie League has received a grant of this size.
“We’re fortunate to be one of the facilities to receive such a grant,” said Bill Allende, president of the Glendora Lassie League board of directors.
“Our equipment is pretty old, it’s outdated. It’s pretty much going to buy new equipment for all divisions,” Allende said.
Allende credits former Glendora Lassie League President Michael Staley with putting forth the work last year to apply for the grant.
Sponsorships help to bring revenue for the League, including field sponsorships with Frozen Ropes Baseball & Softball Training Center, Tucker Tire and some travel ball teams, including the League-organized Pride of the Foothills All-Star Tournament, but this grant will provide a big help.
“These grants reflect LA84’s ongoing commitment to ensure that as many children as possible are made life-ready through sports,” said Anita DeFrantz, president of the foundation, in a written statement.
The LA84 Foundation was created to manage and disburse the excess revenue from the 1984 Olympic Games held in Los Angeles. The goal of the foundation is to create awareness of the impact athletics have on the lives of youths and to serve youth through sports, according to the Foundation website.
The LA84 Foundation has committed more than $220 million to sports organizations in the eight southernmost counties in California.
