Ahead of the mad dash for spectacular Black Friday deals, shoppers have set up camp, literally, outside of Best Buy in Glendora.
About 10 people have set up five tents right outside the Best Buy entrance, 1307 East Gladstone Street.
Pomona resident Gabriel Lara, 18, camped outside Best Buy last year and decided to do it once more. Lara arrived Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
“It’s cool to do something different,” Lara said.
Lara is hoping to nab Dre Solo Beats headphones and a television.
Camper Ray Cota, 17, also from Pomona and the first one in line, has been camping outside Best Buy since 10:30 p.m. Saturday and is also eying some wireless Dre Beats headphones, a 50-inch television and a Bluetooth Speaker.
The landlord for the shopping center determines when campers can set up outside stores, typically the weekend before Black Friday, said David Parish, manager for Best Buy.
Glendora Police and the store managers periodically check on the campers.
“They’ve been polite,” Parish said. “We haven’t had any issues.”
Black Friday traditionally begins the day after Thanksgiving, but many big box stores have opened their doors earlier and earlier in recent years.
Best Buy stores will be opened on Thanksgiving from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Target stores will be opened 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving along with Walmart stores.
