Investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau are investigating the circumstances of a man found dead along a mountain road in the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument.
The body of the man was retrieved within the last 40 minutes and is being transported out by helicopter, said Sgt. Vicki Gregory of the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station. The man has yet to be identified and further questions were deferred to Homicide Bureau.
Authorities reported the man was found under debris and mud near Prairie Fork Road just south of the Bridge to Nowhere.
According to Sheriff’s broadcast traffic during the recovery operation Saturday night, Search and Rescue officials contemplated using chainsaws to free the body from the debris due to its sheer volume.
A hiker Saturday afternoon discovered the body along the mountain road, Gregory said.
