Glendora City News has learned that the Ralphs supermarket will officially close next month.
Ralphs, 655 S. Grand Ave., will close in mid-November and was apparently making lackluster profits.
“The store had been underperforming for quite some time,” said Ralphs Spokeswoman Kendra Doyel.
The decision to close the store was made this year. All Ralphs stores are analyzed on an ongoing basis. Underperforming stores are provided assistance to make them more profitable, but the supermarkets that cannot stay in the black are eventually closed, Doyel said.
“We never take this decision lightly and it’s always a last resort,” Doyel said.
All store associates have been offered positions in other Ralphs supermarkets, Doyel said.
The long time grocery chain had been rumored to be closing for a while and it was finally made official a few weeks back, with the employees being notified that November 20 will be the target date according to one store manager who would not go on record.
As far as what stores have contemplated replacing Ralphs, GCN has learned of one possible store that may fill the void, but we have not received official word yet.
