An unidentified driver was killed Wednesday morning after colliding with a dump truck on Sunflower at Juanita avenues.
The driver of the silver Acura, only described as a male in his late teens or early 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the overturned dump truck was uninjured, police said.
It is unclear how the collision occurred, but the driver of the northbound Acura may have swerved for unknown reasons into the path of the southbound dump truck, possibly attempting to turn west onto Juanita Avenue, said Glendora Police Chief Tim Staab.
Police responded to the crash around 8:25 a.m.
“From what a witness told us, the silver Acura was on the wrong side of the street.”
The dump truck driver had the green light, Staab said.
The three-axle dump truck flipped over and spun around on its side, coming to rest on a resident’s front yard.
The dump truck was carrying asphalt, which spilled onto the sidewalk and resident’s yard.
The crash was so powerful it was heard from the Interstate 210 freeway, said a tow truck driver travelling the freeway who came to see the crash.
While awaiting the arrival of Coroner’s investigators, officers and detectives will document the scene.
Sunflower Avenue north and south of Juanita will be closed for at least several hours.
Sunflower Alternative Schools, 1505 S. Sunflower Ave., is working on a notifying parents to pick up their children if the roads are still closed.
