More than 2,500 hospitals across the U.S. have been ranked according to safety protocols, public data and performance measures, with a Glendora hospital included in the report.
Foothill Presbyterian Hospital has received a “B” score in the the latter half of 2014, reportedly an improvement from the “C” scores it received in the latter half of 2013 and the first half of 2014.
The scoring methodology runs on an “A” to “F” scale and also includes a numerical score, of which Foothill Presbyterian received a score of at least 3.151.
The scoring methodology utilizes 28 different measures of publicly available hospital data and is meant to provide an outlook on the hospital’s overall performance in patient safety, according to Washington-based nonprofit Leapfrog Group.
The methodology has been peer-reviewed and published in the Journal of Patient Safety.
The Hospital Safety Score uses performance data collected by Leapfrog Group, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, among others.
Leapfrog’s hospital safety score has reportedly become the “gold standard measure of patient ranking,” according to Leapfrog’s website, having been cited recently in MSNBC, The New York Times and AARP The Magazine.
Not every hospital has been reviewed, due to limited data on certain hospitals. East Valley Hospital Medical Center was not included in the report.
