A large oak tree fell across lanes of Amelia Avenue north of the Glendora Country Club around 9:05 a.m. Friday morning.
Part of the fallen tree is hanging on power lines across Amelia Avenue. Southern California Edison has shut off power to allow crews from West Cast Arbors, who are contracted with the city, to cut down the tree.
While there is no immediate word on why the tree fell, it is likely due to the recent rains compromising the ground.
Resident Mike Downard narrowly avoided being ht by the tree. While he was driving southbound, the tree fell in front of him, forcing him to brake, Downard said.
