A probationer and his accomplice were arrested Monday after attempting to cash a counterfeit check and initiating a pursuit with Covina Police officers back in December.
The vehicle used by the man and woman was reported stolen out of Glendora. The suspects were eventually located by the San Gabriel Valley East AB109 Task Force in a Claremont motel room and arrested Jan. 26.
The man and woman attempted to cash a counterfeit check at a Wells Fargo bank in Covina, December 17. Police officers attempted to contact the suspects as they were entering the stolen vehicle. The two fled and officers pursued the suspects at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, according to Sgt. Gregg Peterson of Covina Police.
The suspects evaded officers, but were eventually identified.
The man, 29-year-old Justin Allen, was on active probation under the early release prison realignment program and also had a no-bail probation violation warrant out for his arrest.
The woman, 24-year-old Ashleigh Bilesimo, had a felony warrant out for her arrest, issued in San Bernardino County on burglary and narcotics charges, Peterson said.
Allen was held without bail. Bilesimo was held in lieu of $125,000 bail.
Authorities located in the suspects’ motel room evidence of mail theft, identity theft and equipment used to manufacture counterfeit checks and forms of identification, Peterson said. A gun was also located.
Anyone with information regarding the counterfeit crime is asked to contact the Covina Police detective bureau at (626) 384-5628, mention case number 14-6729.
