A man was arrested Friday evening after he reportedly ignored officer’s instructions to not drive after being seen sitting intoxicated inside his car.
The man, a San Dimas resident, led officers on a quick pursuit from Grand Avenue and Armstead Street to a residence in Covina, reportedly obeying posted speed limits and traffic lights during the chase, police said.
Officers contacted the man and his female counterpart, both sitting in his white Ford Taurus just after 6 p.m. in the 600 block of West Armstead Street. Officers observed the man and woman were intoxicated and were told not to drive, said Sgt. Mike Henderson of Glendora Police.
About 15 minutes later, officers saw the man driving in the area of Grand Avenue and Armstead Street. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the man kept driving and the short pursuit began, Henderson said.
The woman was not in the vehicle during the pursuit.
The man drove Sunflower Avenue southbound for most of the pursuit, eventually stopping outside a residence near Benwood Street and Grammont Avenue in Covina.
Dean McGinnis, 47, was arrested without incident and was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, evading an officer and for driving with high blood-alcohol content, which was twice the legal limit, Henderson said.
McGinnis was eventually issued a citation and released.
