SNAPSHOT: Winter Storm Tears Through Town

Lighter rain continues to fall on Glendora, but the intense storm that flew through just hours earlier left its mark.

Much mud flowed into streets as it was diverted by the k-rails and sandbags. Large rocks peppered the streets as workers moved to clear the roadway.

Sierra Madre Avenue had been closed for a period due to excessive mud and debris. Hicrest remains closed.

As rain fell hard in the 4 a.m. hour, Glendora Police advised residents via social media to seek shelter in the highest point in their homes if they had not already evacuated.

Glendora received about one half of an inch of rain in under 30 minutes, according to the National Weather Service. As of 9:26 a.m., the city received 1.28 inches of rain.

Harrow Debris Basin above Easley Canyon Road is about one quarter full of mud and debris, city officials said.

Zak Bushey was busy up in the Colby Fire Impact Area after 4:30 a.m. at Rainbow Drive and Sierra Madre Avenue where a lot of mud and rocks were being swept off the hillside by intense rainfall. Sand bags were seen being swept away as well.

Authorities closed Sierra Madre Avenue just west of yucca Ridge Road due to flooding on the streets. In the above photo, city workers created that makeshift drainage hole to divert mud and water with the help of some bulldozers.

Elsewhere in the San Gabriel Valley, a large tree fell onto Rivergrade Road in Irwindale, which a driver hit, police said. A large tree also fell in the 400 block of North Magnolia Avenue in Monrovia.

Also in Monrovia, a mudslide was reported at Highland and Hilcrest where mud spanned from curb to curb. The intersection of Dalewood and Maine Streets saw major flooding, th California Highway Patrol reported.

Azusa ordered mandatory evacuations for residents on the east side of Ridgeview Drive with police and Los Angeles County Fire fighters stationed nearby to assist residents.

Looking ahead, isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to hit the area throughout the day.
