A 48-year-old Glendora resident was killed Aug. 1 after he collided with a car in Lake Arrowhead.
The California Highway Patrol reported Darren Scherner was riding a KTM 500 motorcycle westbound on State Route 173 west of Cottage Grove Road. For unknown reasons, Scherner crossed the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic and collided head on with an eastbound Chevy Sonic driven by a Palm Springs resident.
Scherner was ejected from his motorcycle and sustained major injuries, according to the Arrowhead CHP Office.
The accident happened at 1:44 p.m.
Scherner was taken to Mountains Community Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Rochelle Young, a long time friend remembers what a terrific person he was.
“He was a great person. He was just as gentile as he was intense. He played hard, worked hard and was full of laughs. I loved him dearly”, Young said.
The driver of the Chevy Sonic was uninjured.
