The man who led Glendora Police on a chase into La Puente was located and arrested after trying to flee officers on foot Thursday.
The suspect, 21-year-old Jacob Degloyer, listed as a transient, was later identified by police. Detectives found him in San Dimas Thursday afternoon around 2 p.m. and tried to detain him, but he briefly fled on foot. Police took him into custody without further incident.
Glendora officers saw a black Honda car driving erratically in a parking lot in the 800 block of West Arrow Highway March 23 just before 9 p.m. Degloyer refused to stop for police and fled onto surface streets, said Lt. James DeMond, head of the Investigations Bureau at the Glendora Police Department.
It was believed Degloyer was possibly accompanied by one other occupant. The car was an unreported stolen out of Covina, police said.
The pursuit wound its way into Covina where Degloyer collided with another vehicle at slow speed, DeMond said. No one was injured in the crash.
The pursuit eventually entered the southbound 57 freeway and then wound westbound onto the 60 freeway where Glendora officers requested the California Highway Patrol to take over, DeMond said.
Degloyer exited onto Hacienda Boulevard in La Puente where the CHP lost sight of the Honda, but the KCAL 9 news helicopter, which was covering the pursuit live, continued to track the vehicle to a home, where the Honda stopped and both suspects fled, DeMond said.
The news copter pilot helped direct the CHP, Sheriff’s deputies and Glendora officers to the area, but without a spotlight, was unable to see where the suspects ran to.
Police later developed information on Degloyer, who is possibly known to the vehicle owner, and his whereabouts. Detectives went to Glen Arden and Covina Boulevard in San Dimas Thursday, eventually found the suspect and took him into custody after he tried to flee on foot, DeMond said.
Degolyer was booked on suspicion of grand theft auto, felony evading, delaying an officer and possession of narcotics.
He is being held without bail, according to county booking records
Degloyer is scheduled to appear in the West Covina Courthouse March 28.
